Arrived today (typing this review on it now)

General impressions are favourable. The case is well made and with striking magnetic connections - the outer fin§ish is a nice soft-touch material and nicer than some of the £99 keyboards I’ve seen. The iPad looks ‘nice’ in the case and the mechanism works well for opening and closing with auto wake and auto keyboard on. The magnetic panel has a nice flocked lining to keep the iPad scratch free at the back which is a nice touch.

The trackpad is good and can be enabled to tap to click (an Amazon review said that this wasn’t possible - it is it’s just in the system settings of the iPad itself)

The keyboard is okay - it’s a bit ‘clacky’ and not as nice a feel as my MBP keyboard (I’m assuming that the genuine Apple MK has the same keys) but that’s to be expected. Couple of minor niggles … firstly (again as expected) the RETURN key is US standard shape (rectangular like all the 3rd party keyboard cases I’ve seen) only the genuine Apple keyboard has the UK shaped ‘taller’ RETURN key and I’ve found myself missing it sometimes but I guess I’ll get used to it. Secondly, no function key row for things like vol, brightness etc. These all require a FN keypress.

As I’m not going to be (I don’t think) using the iPad a huge amount for typing this one at £130 seems justifiable. I think I’d be hard pressed to justify £220 more for the Apple version. Maybe if I find myself using this far more than I thought I might upgrade to the Apple one but the cost is eye-watering for what it is.

All in all - recommended for the price.

Having read many reviews of the alternatives I settled on the Belkin because of the high review score, based on many positive reviews, and the known brand, rather than a random assortment of letters that meant nothing to me. On the whole I am pleased with my purchase, but have a few, relatively minor, comments.

First the positives:
- the case looks good and feels well made.
- the keyboard is clear and has a good, positive action.
- Bluetooth connection to the iPad was easy and seems stable.

Now my comments:
- documentation is poor. Only a small leaflet with 4 pictograms, no user manual included or available from Belkin. As someone familiar with Windows keyboards I need an explanation of some of the keys that I expect would be familiar to a Mac user.
- impossible to register the product online. I contacted Belkin support who were helpful and did this for me.
- top row of keys is very close to the iPad - this could be a common issue with other brands.
- Case covering is described by Amazon as leather - it is not, it is FAUX leather (i.e. fake).

So, although I was hoping to be able to give this a 5 star review, I feel it is justified to downgrade this to 4.

This product was bought as a Christmas present for my son, and when arrived it looked as though it had been open before, small rip in the bottom of the box and it had been resealed. Despite this we checked the product which looked ok. When checked on Christmas Day the magnetic flap did not work, the iPad will not stay on, checked with different devices and the magnet doesn’t work. Wasn’t happy as our son was left without this on Christmas Day. It’s clearly been returned before and is a damaged product therefore should not be being dispatched again. Especially as now we are having to pay for it sending back for a product that wasn’t up to standard in the first place.
