Clairefontaine - more than 150 years of paper history
Paper production in the valley of the Meurthe has a long tradition, since there in the 16th century, the first paper mills. Here the Papeteries de Clairefontaine began its production in 1858 in the small town of Etival Clairefontaine, located on the shores of the Meurthe
Clairefontaine develops and produces its artist papers in 4 locations in Europe, 3 of which are in France. Clairefontaine produces its high-quality paper in the Schut-factory. This small, traditional paper factory is now part of the Clairefontaine company and was one of the first Dutch mills to produce artist papers. Papers that Rembrandt liked to use. It has been in operation since 1618 and celebrated its 400 year existence in 2018.
